Distance Learning at Hale School
Distance learning in Australia inspires powerful images from the history of education in Australia. Across vast distances, educators have sought to conquer the isolation of remote students by using the technologies available and developing unique practices to ensure teaching and learning could be delivered to students in the country from the city.
In the 21st century, technologies have developed to an extraordinary level and distance learning educators are no less ingenious. The distance learning context now has the potential to be transformed so richly by new technologies and innovative thinking, that distance learning has the capacity to enrich the entire educational community. Distance learning can now be devoted to "access and interconnection" rather than the successful delivery of resources from the city. "Access" relates to having a reliable connection to the hugely exciting cloud-based services online. Whilst "interconnected" means remote teachers and students are enabled to build their own richly interactive and independent online communities.
These are transformative times for schools and students. Hale School Distance Learning is a project dedicated to investigating new teaching and learning horizons for the Hale School community, whilst in a spirit of exploring the future of schooling, sharing that new knowledge and expertise with rural educators.
Hale@home is transforming the transition to boarding school for our boys. Hale Future School is an initiative dedicated to sharing what we have learned, created, and designed in this exciting new domain.
